ATC Readback Pop Quiz

Time for a pop quiz.

First, I want to say thank you for visiting. Daily readership for this website has increased more than 80% over the last week and a half. I’m glad and grateful you are finding useful information here.

As a thank you, here’s a fun little pop quiz to test your knowledge of ATC readback protocol.

Fast Facts:

1. There are only 10 questions.

2. Almost every question is a gray area.

3. You might not agree with my opinion about the right answer. That’s okay. I don’t mind. If you think I’m full of it, tell me in the comments section below.

4. This is a completely anonymous quiz.  It’s just for your own entertainment/feedback/irritation. Take your pick.

5. Cheating is allowed.

6. Click the link below the survey window to get the answers. The “Done” button inside the survey will not provide the answers.

Have fun!

Finished? Great! Here is a link to the answers.

Do you have any more of these?

There are 3 posted at the website. Scroll down to the bottom of any pages and look in the left-hand column. You’ll see a link titled, “Pop Quizzes.” If you have already done all three, my workbook, Radio Mastery for VFR Pilots Workbook has 100’s of questions and answers based on realistic flying scenarios.

Enjoyed taking the quiz but one question on taxi clearances. I have heard from others that a clearance that includes “taxi to …” means you are cleared to cross any intermediate runway. I thought that was changed a while back and not ground is required to explicitly include all runway crossing clearances. Senior grey matter may be getting in the way. Can you clarify and if the taxi clearance requirements have been changed, how long back did that happen?

Would also appreciate a response by email in case I don’t get around reviewing your posts. Thx, … dave

The format for taxi clearances changed almost 3 years ago. ATC no longer says “Taxi to” under any circumstances. I sent you an email with the same explanation.
