Learning to copy pre-departure route clearances from ATC is a difficult process. Many flight instructors have suggested using the acronym CRAFT to help memorize the order of items given in a clearance. In my opinion, CRAFT is crap. The acronym is misleading because it does not cover everything that actually issued in a pre-departure clearance.
What’s the solution? The following articles contain tips and techniques for making your clearance copy easier to manage.
I have also created a hands-on course in copying clearances called Clearance Magic. The course is available at this link.
