When we receive instructions from a radar controller, it’s often during a very busy phase of flight. When in contact with an approach controller, we are either in the arrival or departure phase of flight near a busy airport. Further, it’s fairly common for the radio frequency to be very busy with transmissions back and forth between ATC and other pilots. If you don’t have a lot of experience in this type of environment, it’s quite common to get overwhelmed by the wave of clearances coming in over the radio.
